The game
Washington upset the undefeated Bears (11–0), who were chasing a third straight title and were favored by three touchdowns, two years after Chicago's 73–0 rout on the same field. The Bears went ahead 6–0 when Lee Artoe returned a fumble 52 yards for a touchdown. Sammy Baugh answered with a 39-yard touchdown pass to Wilbur Moore, and Andy Farkas's 1-yard run in the third quarter made it 14–6. The sellout crowd of 36,006 produced a record gate of more than $113,000. It was the franchise's last NFL title until Super Bowl XVII.
